illuminAid donor spotlight - recognizing cherished supporters

illuminAid is proud to announce a new element of future newsletters specifically pertaining to our donors. Every month, we will recognize one donor who has ardently supported illuminAid over the years, and we wish to show great gratitude for those who have empowered us to achieve our global mission. Thank you so much to all of our supporters!

For this newsletter, we would like to recognize a Chico man named Michael who has passionately supported illuminAid for quite some time. We will purposely choose not to disclose the donor’s full name for privacy purposes. Michael graciously answered some questions for us about his experiences with illuminAid, and please get to know him more by reading further!

Question: How did you first hear about illuminAid?

Answer: When I first heard of it, it was called OMPT. I was the Department Chair of Management (at CSU Chico), looking for a faculty member to teach a class in social entrepreneurship, and I believe (fellow CSU faculty member and OMPT Board Member) Peter Straus recommended I contact Matt York. That was 8 or 9 years ago, and after Matt taught for us one semester, he was just too busy traveling to do the mission of OMPT, but that is when I found out what the organization did.

Question: How long have you supported the organization?

Answer: I started supporting OMPT in 2014.

Question: What inspired you to support the global mission of illuminAid?

Answer: Matt York inspired me! I was impressed that he had the energy, ingenuity and ability to help the poorest people on earth. His vision and the mission of IlluminAid is exactly what the world needs, and it's right here in Chico...really amazing to have a non-profit like illuminAid here, and Matt himself, of course. I felt that if I could help him by contributing to his organization to help the poorest in the world, then I would do that - and knowing Matt and the company I am giving to is much more rewarding than giving to a national charity, even though there are many good ones, you know its a large organization so it's a little impersonal.
