A Busy Couple Months at illuminAid
As COVID-19 restrictions continue to lift, illuminAid worked with two of our partner NGOs and traveled to two countries to help train locals on video production. illuminAid founder Matt York returned to Liberia to help our new partner, AIFO Liberia, in the beginning of May. He also went to Paraguay to partner with PLAN International: Paraguay, which is the first time illuminAid has been to that country.
We worked with AIFO Liberia from May 2nd to May 5th to train participants from 10 communities to promote the rights of people with disabilities (PWDs). We met with people from across Great Monrovia, Montserrado County, Bong County and Nimba County. During the workshop, we trained folks on video production to empower People with Disabilities to share their unique experiences. Being a person with a disability can be a challenge anywhere and that is especially true in Liberia. We hope that our workshop helps to empower people to make more videos to help spread awareness. This video workshop was a huge success and was an excellent return to the world. To read more about this project and see the final videos, click here.
Our latest project took place in Paraguay from May 31st to June 3rd. We worked with PLAN: Paraguay (part of PLAN: International) to hold a video education workshop to help them promote the health and safety of girls and young women. Participants made a video about COVID-19 best practices like mask wearing, hand washing, social distancing, etc. In true illuminAid fashion, participants went out into their community and used local children from rural areas to be the stars of the video. We are very proud of the results and hope to go back in the future. To read more about this project and see the final videos, click here.
