Our Upcoming Project with AIFO Liberia
We are excited to announce our upcoming project with our new partner AIFO Liberia! This May illuminAid will be travelling to Liberia to train and equip local community members to more effectively promote the human rights of persons with disability.
AIFO is an international NGO founded in 1961 and has spent the past 60 years focusing on the promotion of disability rights, building the capacity of local Disabled People Organizations and fostering economic independence for People with Disabilities (PWDs). Through our bilateral teamwork, illuminAid and AIFO Liberia propose to incorporate the use of video technology to increase awareness on PWDs work and employment rights and build the capacity of Civil Society Organizations to respect, protect, and promote rights obligations toward PWDs.
illuminAid’s work is rooted in the methodology of participatory video which gives PWDs the opportunity to be involved in locally created videos. We will be working in 10 communities across Great Monrovia, Montserrado County, Bong County and Nimba County. With AIFO Liberia we will disseminate video in these communities to bridge the digital divide in unequal access to technology. Within these counties, we plan to create videos that will bring awareness to the situations people with disabilities face in Liberia. PWDs face unique challenges that able bodied people do not experience. These challenges can range from barriers that they face when accessing employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship. Persons with disabilities also face challenges while accessing relevant services, spaces, and specifically access to information on the COVID-19 pandemic. We are looking forward to working with AIFO Liberia to help persons with disabilities access essential services and enhance opportunities for this population
