In Ethiopia there are more than 630,000 refugees from South Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia. Conflict and instability drive these people from their homes into camps across the border. There are many obstacles to normal life in these settlements, including sanitation — one of the most important due to its cascading effect on health.

In November 2014, the International Rescue Committee invited OMPT to train its hygiene and sanitation staff to make and show videos using simple cameras and cordless video projectors. The trainees all worked in the Northern part of the country which supports Eritrean refugees in four camps. Program Coordinator Claire Pelley and and two Local Video Trainers taught 10 staff members to create simple sanitation and hygiene videos. They also delivered cameras, projectors and recharging kits. Their videos, all in the Tigrinya language, cover topics like promoting hand washing and safe water management in the home.
