Global Communities – Rwanda

Poverty is widespread throughout Rwanda with nearly 40 percent of the population living below the poverty line. Moreover, a quarter of Rwandan families and households are considered food insecure. Food insecurity can be the result of insufficient economic means and/or inadequate nutritional knowledge and can result in chronic malnutrition and childhood stunting.
OMPT partnered with Global Communities in August 2013 to promote economic development and food security. Executive Director Matt York and two local video trainers administered training in Rwanda for 11 Global Communities staff members. OMPT delivered five camera kits, five projector kits and five recharging kits to the training participants. Global Communities will use the locally created videos and cordless projectors to hold community meetings emphasizing financial literacy and promoting adequate nutritional guidelines. This workshop was part of a larger program called Ejo Heza (“brighter future”) with the ultimate goal of improving standards of living for rural Rwandans.
