Digital Study Hall – India

In Lucknow, India, OMPT partnered with Digital Study Hall to help develop their video production skills. At that time, Digital Study Hall was using DVD players and TVs to help teachers in rural areas conduct their lessons. This solution required access to electricity which isn't consistently available across rural India.

OMPT was able to introduce a better solution by providing training and instruction on how to use video cameras and pico projectors in place of DVD players and TVs. OMPT also introduced the use of solar panels to re-charge these items, enabling these educational tools to be utilized in places without access to electricity.

This training marked the first time that pico projectors were used ever in international development. This innovation allowed organizations involved in international development to advance further in the use of technology to improve lives in rural areas.

• Project Partner: Digital Study Hall is a non-profit, non-government organization that seeks to transform education in rural areas of India through the use of technology. Their method involves videotaping live classes, collecting them in a database and distributing them in the form of DVDs. They have recorded more than 4,000 videos that include a wide variety of basic education lessons. Because of their efforts, there has been an increase in student scores, general knowledge of the subjects addressed, teachers’ abilities to teach and student participation.
