Bringing farming into focus: Video solutions for Ethiopia’s future

For over a decade, illuminAid has partnered with Digital Green to improve the livelihoods of farmers in Ethiopia and other developing nations. By using video technology, Digital Green gives communities vital agricultural knowledge that boosts food security and supports sustainable farming.
The collaboration started in 2012 when illuminAid trained Digital Green’s staff in India on how to create educational farming videos. Since then, illuminAid has provided projectors that let Digital Green reach remote Ethiopian farmers with crucial training materials. These videos, developed with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture, cover topics like water management, pest control and sustainable farming techniques.
Designed for use without electricity, the projectors let communities share knowledge in places where traditional learning isn't practical. This is important in Ethiopia, where infrastructure issues, climate change and food insecurity create serious obstacles. Because of unpredictable rainfall, droughts and limited access to clean water, Digital Green’s approach helps farmers adopt more resilient, sustainable practices.
The impact is far-reaching: More than 1,200 videos have been created and shared in 7,200 villages, giving farmers the tools to improve crop yields and livelihoods. These lessons spread through communities, fostering greater agricultural stability.
IlluminAid is proud to support this transformative work, helping Ethiopian farmers overcome adversity with innovative technology. By expanding access to knowledge, this partnership continues to empower communities and ensure a more sustainable and food-secure future.
