Generosity: giving to improve everyone’s well-being
Your brain is wired for generosity. That’s according to numerous studies* like the 2017 study funded by the Women’s Philanthropy Institute and a 2008 study by Harvard and the University of British Columbia. Both studies indicate that there’s a connection between giving and a more satisfied, happier life. Additionally, other studies indicate that there’s a connection between this mindset and longevity.
The relationship between generosity and a satisfying life is more than just psychological. Giving actually releases the same hormones you get when you eat a great meal, listen to beautiful music or spend time with loved ones. Being generous makes you feel good mentally, and the hormones released can also lower blood pressure and help your body fight disease. In other words, giving is good for you, both mentally and physically.
We completely understand the effects generosity can have. We see it when we’re out in the field. We see it on the faces of the people we teach during our training sessions. We also see it when those people create a video they are proud to show their village, gifting their friends, family and community life-changing information.
However, this feeling isn’t just exclusive to us. Everyone has the potential to show generosity, no matter how big or small the act is. It’s our mission to show as much generosity to the world as we possibly can, and we hope that you join us in that mission.
