Humanitarian Crises Impacting illuminAid Partner Countries
Here at illuminAid we consider our partners and their contributions to be very important and meaningful. To this date, we have partnered with many countries including Malawi, Mozambique and Burkina Faso. Unfortunately, all three countries mentioned have been in the news recently due to some rather dire events. Malawi and Mozambique were recently hit by a cyclone. As of late last month, Burkina Faso has undergone a coup d'etat.
Storm Ana has wreaked havoc on Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar, leaving dozens dead and many more affected by the flooding left behind. This also affected the power source many had been using and left them without electricity. Luckily, after several days of blackouts, power has returned for some. Access to technology and sources of power are at the heart of illuminAid’s mission, and when events like this occur, we strive to make sure they do not go unnoticed.
Similarly, 4,000 miles west in Burkina Faso, their recent coup has left the entire nation in a state of uncertainty. It was the latest in a series of coups in western Africa. Since the event took place on January 23, nearly two million people have become displaced from their homes. An additional 1.5 million citizens, totaling 3.5 million, are seeking emergency assistance.
We find it important to acknowledge our partners as well as those around the world in need. Malawi, Mozambique, and Burkina Faso are all in our thoughts and we look forward to continuing partnerships with NGOs located there going forward. Organizations like CARE Malawi, UNICEF and CRS in Burkina Faso, and Pathfinder in Mozambique all deserve support, and we hope for the best with their efforts to uplift their beneficiaries in dire need right now. illuminAid’s work is never done and neither are the bonds we create with our partners. Stay strong!
