Plan International Paraguay Completes Their First Post-workshop Video

The rights of women and girls worldwide are often overlooked and dismissed, not to mention their health and wellbeing. At illuminAid, we’re always looking for opportunities to change that. At the beginning of 2020, we began planning with Plan International in Paraguay to aid them in their work as advocates for young women’s health and safety. After a delay due to the pandemic, we went to Paraguay in May 2021 to train their staff how to create and disseminate video as part of their educational outreach efforts.

Plan International is an independent non-profit humanitarian organization founded to promote the rights and equality of girls. Plan has worked in Paraguay since 1994 to achieve a lasting impact on the lives of the most vulnerable children. They are working to make an inclusive, egalitarian society, free of all forms of violence towards girls and women. Plan International is found worldwide in more than 70 countries, including Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Plan’s goals are to help youth make informed decisions about their sexual health, access quality services, influence decision-making processes that affect them, access training and get good jobs.

The staff at Plan International Paraguay have been busy this Summer, having just finished their first behavior-change video since the conclusion of the illuminAid workshop, with two more videos nearing completion. The first video focuses on promoting positive and active parenting by transforming long-running, destructive gender stereotypes. Through the video, they seek to create a consensus and understanding of the importance of the male role in the care of children. They report having a great experience creating that video and are excited about continuing to create videos on a number of different topics.

Throughout the workshop, illuminAid learned a lot from the Plan staff about the daily violence and hardships that young women and girls in Paraguay must contend with. With the help of the videos created by the Plan staff, girls and young women will be armed with helpful information delivered in a manner that will leave an indelible mark on their lives in a way unique to video. We at illuminAid are delighted with their first video and can’t wait to see the next ones.
