The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Education

Schools have been closed around the world since March 2020, relying on various forms of distance learning, but distanced learning in countries like the United States looks very different from the distance learning in much of the world. UNICEF estimates that 1.5 billion children worldwide are out of school because of the pandemic, but many of these do not have access to remote learning.

An estimated 50% of children in Africa lack access, but even children that do have access may face other difficulties in learning. This global impact on education will have repercussions for decades.  An entire generation will be affected in more areas than just education as the pandemic impacts the economy and poverty levels as well.

Helping disconnected children have access to a quality education is one of illuminAid’s main goals, making our approach to sharing information that much more important during the pandemic. Education through battery-powered video could make a significant difference for millions of children that do not have access otherwise.
